GOUT MEDICINES

Gout medicines are used to treat Gout also known as podagra . Gout is a disorder of purine metabolism and occurs when its final metabolite uric acid crystallizes in the form of monosodium urate, precipitating in joints, on tendons, and in the surrounding tissue particularly in big toe .

Various Gout Medications can be chosen to treat gout which includes :
A- Prophylaxis Medication: This is a preventive medication and drugs like Allopurinol , Probenecid , Febuxostat can be used .

B- During acute attack Gout Medicines are :
1- NSAIDs : Commonly used NSAIDs are Ibuprofen and Diclofenac can be considered .
2- Colchicine : It is an alternative for the patients who are unable to tolerate NSAIDs.
3- Steroids : Glucocorticoids such as Hydrocortisone , Prednisolone like drugs have been found to be as effective as NSAIDs .
4- Pegloticase : Is a new drug included in Gout medicines proved to be effective when others can not be used .
5- Various Diuretic agents like Hydrochlorthiazide, along with Niacin , Aspirin , Cyclosporine and Tacrolimus can be used .

Side effects : Serious side effects can be observed with Gout Medicines which includes Gastro intestinal disturbances , allergic reactions .
