PARACETAMOL SIDE EFFECTS

Paracetamol is one of the time tested pain killer . The another name for this molecule is Acetaminophen . This molecule has been in the clinical practise for more than 40 years because of paracetamol less side effects , and proved to be effective, safe and economical in controlling symptoms like fever, pain and inflammation . Till to day no country has banned this drug showing it's safety profile .



Paracetamol can be used from children to elderly patients with out major side effects .

But, few side effects are documented with Paracetamol :

1-Paracetamol is metabolised in the liver. so if the patients is with hepatic/liver damage

or liver compromised patients it may deteriorate the liver function .

2-Paracetamol is excreted by the kidneys, so the patients with kidney impairement has to be used carefully .

3-Another important side effect is when it is used indescriminately or when this drug is used in very higher doses for longer times it may cause gastritis, Ulcerations in the stomach walls leading to severe bleeding finally it may beccome gastric perforations .

4-Lastly, the important precaution is in Alcohol dependent patients paracetamol is contraindicated or has to be used with doctors advise .
